Assateague Island National Seashore

Located in Maryland and Virginia, this barrier island is a spectacular place to visit. There are the famous wild ponies, of course, but there is so much more to this park that you may never know unless you visit yourself. They offer camping directly on the beach. There are trails through the marshes, in the sand dunes, along Old Baltimore Boulevard and many more, and kayak rentals. You can easily lose yourself and all track of time while you explore everything there is offer. Wildlife is abundant, but most easily seen in the off season. Due to the popularity of the beaches and camping, the summer months showcase more people than animals in view. I highly recommend planning a trip in the Spring, Fall or Winter - which is next on my list!
