Black-Crowned Night Heron

The Black-Crowned Night Heron is a small heron common in North and Central America. These small herons have likely declined over the 20th century. However, local populations have been recovering since the banning of DDT. Water pollution is still an issue in some areas, but this heron is believed to now be stable and recovering. Similar to the Green Heron, their necks are deceivingly long at around the same length as their bodies.
